Residents opposed to the project are balking at a proposal that
would delay a final decision on the fate of the Flying J truck-stop
development. A pretrial hearing in front of an Ontario Municipal
Board adjudicator was held on Wednesday.
Flying J is seeking approval for build of a seven-million dollar
truck stop at the intersection of the Thunder Bay Expressway and
Oliver Road. At the hearing, representatives of the company asked
for a delay in the proceeding that would allow them to revise their
site plan and to produce technical studies in response to neighbor
concerns. It's a proposal that would push back a decision on the
matter until spring.
The current schedule calls for the final hearing to be held in
October and opponents of the project say they wish to stick to that
schedule. Both sides have been given three weeks to make submissions
on the issue. A decision on revisions to the schedule will be
announced sometime next month.
