HARRISON COUNTY - A store clerk's report of an
alleged shoplifter who fled on a bicycle led deputy sheriff's to a
wooded area where Charles McLaurin Jr. allegedly was found with
merchandise from the Flying J Travel Plaza.
The clerk reported the man stashed the items in a blue bag on
Tuesday and pedaled south on Canal Road. Deputies found McLaurin in
a wooded area off Canal and recovered a CD player, 13 DVDs and other
items, sheriff's officials said.
McLaurin, 36, of Cardinal Drive, Gulfport, was arrested on a
felony shoplifting charge and simple assault by fear, a misdemeanor.
He was held at the county jail on $3,500 bond set by Justice Court
Judge Dianne
Ladner.
